Installing a travel eSIM is usually quick, but steps differ by phone and provider. Follow your provider's instructions and use this as a general guide.
Before you start
- Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network
- Make sure your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM
- Have your confirmation email, QR code or activation details ready
General steps
- Open your phone settings and find the cellular or mobile data section
- Choose the option to add an eSIM or a mobile plan
- Scan the QR code, or enter the details manually if the provider supplies them
- Give the new line a clear label, such as Travel Data
- Choose which line to use for mobile data
When you arrive
- Turn on the travel eSIM line and enable data roaming for that line if your provider says so
- Turn off data roaming on your home line if you want to avoid roaming charges
- Test by opening a map or a web page
Good to know
- Some providers let you install in advance and start the plan when you first connect. Others start the clock at installation. Read the plan terms
- Do not delete the eSIM profile before your trip ends
