Hawaii is part of the United States, but each island has areas with weak or no signal, such as remote beaches, trails and mountain roads. A good plan and a few preparations can help.
Before you choose a plan
- Confirm the plan covers the United States and includes Hawaii
- Check which networks the provider uses and how they cover the islands you will visit
- Estimate data for maps, ride apps, messaging and photo sharing
- Check the plan duration for your whole trip, including inter-island travel
Plan for gaps in coverage
- Download offline maps before you leave your hotel, especially for road trips such as Maui or the Big Island
- Save your reservations and tickets offline
- Tell travel partners where you will meet if signal drops
Good to know
- Keep emergency numbers handy, and use local emergency services when needed
- If your plan is data only, install a messaging app for calls
