Before you buy a travel eSIM, make sure your phone can use one. Many newer phones support eSIM, but not all models or regional versions do.
Check your phone
- Look in your phone settings under cellular or mobile data for an option to add an eSIM or plan
- Check your phone maker's support page for your exact model and region
- Ask your carrier if you are not sure
Check that it is unlocked
- A phone locked to one carrier may not accept another provider's eSIM
- Ask your carrier whether your phone is unlocked, and how to unlock it if it is not
Other things to check
- Whether your phone has enough storage and the latest software update
- Whether you can use two lines at once, such as your home SIM and the eSIM
- Whether your plan or device was bought through a carrier or a country with eSIM restrictions
If your phone is not compatible
Consider a physical SIM, a pocket Wi-Fi device or checking your carrier's international options instead.
